May
Our HWT team started the finals in the GA 14v14 POE ladder this month. We soundly beated our first opponent Southern Gaming on Berezne (awesome map) 181-0 but it did not seem like it on the ground at times. Some very touch and go moments where fights over flags between 2 opposing squads came down to one soldier left standing who found a medic kit and picked up his team mates. Fortunelty it was an AUS member left standing most of the time but very close fought and that made it all the more fun.
Not as much fun on the next finals match against NSOF on the Blue Nile. Not a good map for us, loosing previously to NSOF on it but away we went. We convinced UGG to come out of retirement for sentimental reasons as this looked like being the last ‘big format’ match in BF2 for AUS. Anyway we did better than expected in first round, but the wheels fell off at the end with a 60 ticket lead dropping to 21 I think. But it turned out irrelevant t for the second due to NSOF pushing us back and setting up a wall of death we could not get through. So ended the HWT season.
The 10v10 LID team had a well earned break during May, as did our GS team. The leadership of the 6v6 team was handed to Templepilots who lead the team for 2 victories against The Incredibles on Goods Station and the Aussie Underdogs on fushee pass. A few scrims and training sessions ensured the 6v6 team continued to play well and work its way to the finals. An unfortunate breach of trust led to a clan member being removed but a few more new recruits helped keep AUS in a good state to field full teams in 4 BF2 competitive ladders.
As a little diversion for some members, and because Jay is always looking for something new to keep members busy, he created a Counter strike team for AUS that anyone from any AUS decision in the network could join and have a laugh playing something different. Although some BF2 members would not be caught dead in a CS game, some closet fans joined Jay on our off nights and some casual gaming.
After 8 months as a clan officer Systemlord stepped down to focus more time on his current job and career pursuits in the ADF. Thank you for your efforts for the clan over the past 2 years in the Lid leadership, Special Forces captaincy, HWT leadership – especially helping the team adjust to the changes from 16v16 to POE 14v14. GL with work and don’t be a stranger :)
