Battlefield news update -- Posted by Lord_Barra on Friday, June 27 2008 |
Well it has been a while since the last news update. My PC blew up, poped capacitors on my motherboard and sweating\fizzing\leaking surface mount resistors on the back of my video card meant i was out of commission for a while. Im back now for an update.
The 16v16 team was knocked out in round one of the finals in an epic against Exile5. It was always going to be a very difficult match but the *AUS* boys pushed hard and capped Exile back to their airfield for a brief moment which really gave the boys a boost of confidence. Losing by only 90 or so tickets as the USMC side on dalian plant is actually a pretty good effort because China was such a dominant side. Going into round two we really had hope for a win. Unfortunately we couldn't keep it together. Exile5 knew they were in trouble due to their poor round as china and so pushed very hard as USMC. We couldnt contain them and they stole away the victory by a big number on paper but a slim margin on game night. Ending our season in 7th spot wasnt a bad effort considering we drew Exile5 in an elimination round first up. We look forward to the next season.
LiD have had a harder time securing no wins since my last update. This high up the ladder the teams get better by an order of magnitude but we continue training and fighting hard none the less. Check the battle results page for details on those games.
The new 2142 season has started and so our team has been starting off its season in the new format, a little shaky has been the start so far but it is early days yet, again results can be found on our battles page.
The Special Forces team (cannon fodder) has enjoyed a win and a loss since the last update. The win was against the DNA clan who are quickly becoming somewhat of a friendly rival, our games seem to go tit for tat as we are apparently fairly well matched teams. I look forward to our next encounter.
Thats it, ive had a night of catching up on administrative stuff so now im off to test my new pc out on games. |

It has been a slow week for once, the break has been good, and because of this there isnt that much to report.
Our special forces team sat on their butts this week – no games played since the Mercenaries game. We did however get an e-mail confirming the finals rules and format with the traditional elimination rounds to thin out the teams and decide who will play the GF, fixtures still TBA but we know we will be in it still sitting comfortable in 1st spot.
In the 10v10 Ladder our LiD team were challenged by RapidFire who were making their way back up the ladder. We got thumped on karkand in a rather brutal game but we still fought hard and never gave up, reducing the damage and proving we have some fight no matter who we play. These guys still sitting at 17th and defending another challenge from behind to be played out on Tuesday.
HwT in the 16v16 ladder prepared to defend 7th spot in a challenge from 3FSJ on ladder lock but the game never got played – an unusually long EA master account server outage meant we couldn't log on to play the game which was scheduled for 9pm. We waited until 10 or a little over but the servers never came online until 11pm so the game was recorded as a 0-0 draw with 3FSJ robbed of a chance to get into the top 8. We fought this but GA wouldnt budge so we are now waiting for our finals to begin. We are discussing map and time submission for the first round against Exile5 which will be a very very difficult game.
Wish us luck |

Update time:
Another win on the board for our Cannon Fodder Special Forces team, this time against the Mercenaries clan on Iron Gator. Another good performance by all involved, good squad leading and commanding and strat helped guide our boys to a convincing win of 157 tickets to solidify our position at the very top of this 8v8 special forces ladder run by Adsa. Another challenge has been issued so i will report on that game in the next news update.
Our 10v10 boys secured another good win against the 667th War Pigs team. Sychoshredder and Systemlord lead the boys to a massive win of 232 – 0 securing the teams 6th win in a row and landing them in 13th spot on the 10v10 ladder. We are currently defending a challenge issued by the rapidFire clan which will go down tonight on Karkand. Wish them luck.
Our HwT team played the DnA clan on Sharqi this past week however we didnt enjoy the results the CF and LiD teams have had this week as we went down to DnA by a convincing 178 tickets. The blind fires hurt us bad and a little bad luck meant we couldn't get our chopper into the sky to support our infantry in the ground, especially in the 2nd round when a TOW smashed us on the helo pad and so the result always going to be a DnA win that round. My fault, we were silly to challenge DnA on this map, they know it back to front and we have always struggled. Anyway we are still secured a finals position on the map despite another challenge from behind from 3FSJ that will be played tomorrow night.
Some community news this week, another 'Trans Tasman Tussle' game was played. This was the 2nd game so far of hopefully a continuing rivalry between Australia and New Zealand's Battlefield 2 communities, where 31 players from each side (62 in total) of the Tasman team up to play against each other for their nation in the biggest Battlefield 2 format – 64 players on 64 player maps. *AUS* was proud to be able to field an entire 5 man squad in the Australian team. We were tasked with denying New Zealand their main battle tank on this infantry map of Mashtuur city both rounds. This involved attacking an already secured enemy flag, capturing it and then defending it against a counter attack for as long as possible. The *AUS* squad of Barra, Basefield, Spook, Steric and Sycho were able to capture the enemy tank spawn flag both rounds and hold them for the majority, denying New Zealand this important asset and successfully completing our squads mission in this game. This was not a trivial contribution that lead to the win against the New Zealand team which now ties the series at 1 all – NZ winning the first TTT game on Daqing Oilfield 2 months ago.
A big thanks from me to my squad members, some of which ive not worked with in an infantry squad like that for some time and so I'm very happy with how you all read the game and performed and represented both your clan and your country. Thanks too to the Exile5, aK^, DNA, Evil Fun and AvA clans that also each fielded a 5 man squad each and worked together for this win. Thanks too to nGR who shoutcast the event - ill update this news with the link once it is made available for download.
That's it, for the update – a few key games coming up as 10v10 and 16v16 secure their ladder positions prior to ladder locks just around the corner. Looking forward to another SF game coming up and the 2142 ladder starting up soon for another season.
