Bi Monthly news updates.. Seems that's what the community has come down to. BF2 has finally be able to slip off into the mist a relic of it's former self with the release of Battlefield Bad Company 2 (BETA).
Some of us were lucky enough to get in on the console beta and run amok on the map Arica Harbour while others had to sit it out until the launch of the PC beta early this year.
The beta exploded onto monitors all over the world with chunks of armour, buildings and craters being blasted all over the battle field on Port Valdez. CyberGamer ran a beta challange ladder in which we entered a team. Our band of merry men consisted of Mr_AussieDevil, Basefield, Camo, Cheek, Dward, Extractor, GunNugget, Komrad, Mozz, PinkFloyd, Spook and Timahawk.
We got our first taste of BC2 ladder goodness against Death Comes Suddenly, =DcS=, managing to nudge them out for our first round victory in the new ladder. Round 2 saw us face off against Death Inc, =]DI[=, Unfortunatly we went into this matched undermanned due to other engagements with the final rounds of the GA BF2 Ladder. Five brave souls loaded into the match server, Mr_AussieDevil, Ghost_DC, ExtRactoR, PinkFloyd, mozz, all expecting for the match to be over in a matter of minutes. What happened over the course of the 2 rounds was unbelievable. Against all odds we came out victorious over our enemy in what will probably our best ever win in the history of BC2. The 5 of us emerged heroes having beaten a full strength side.
Unfortunatly this victory was soured by the news of our GA team going down in the semi finals against Evil Fun. And even more so by the sour winner comments made by members of Evil Fun's brass in the NGR vent cast after the match.
The thrid round of the BC2 Beta cup saw us face off against Send For Roar which took place on the 17th Feb. This time we had a full strength side. We battled our way throug the first round blowing M-Coms left right and center and set our time. The server restarted and we took our positions defending our precious cargo. Wave after wave the enemy kept pouring on our position forcing us back into our final stage of M-Coms. The last position went down in a hail of gunfire and explosions.... the round was over. We had to wait for the map to reload before we were given our times. Talnoy must love his job because he kept us in suspence waiting to reveal Send For Roar's time for ages.. when finally he revealed what they had down we were shocked..... We had lost by 30 seconds. To us it surely felt like we had kept them at bay for long enough to win, but unfortunatly the time was on there side. We were out. We packed our bags and headed back to HQ to prepare for the full retail release early march 2010.
It seemed like a lifetime waiting for the release of BC2 after the beta ended in late February. But when it finally came out... it was on for young and old. More maps, more guns, more everything! this is what we had been waiting for. Servers were filled to capacity. So much so that the EA master servers were having trouble coping with the load and EA had to ask it's server providers to cut back on the number of servers they were currently running. We were one of the lucky few clans that got in before they cut off the hire of new servers, getting our own ranked BC2 server up and running, *AUS*#1. Since it's been up we have seen many a player jumping in from all over the world to enjoy the birth of this new battlefield title.
As with all new releases BC2 came with it's very own accompanyment of bugs. It was unfortunate that this happened along with the limited number of servers as it ment that all the BC2 ladders that had been spoken about in the lead up had to be temporarily put on hold untill all the major issues could be resolved. As I write this report there is talk about EA lifting the restrictions placed on it's server providers which will mean that the ladders will hopefully get underway shortly.
Amongst all this good news I do however have some sad news to report. Lord_Barra a well respected member of the *AUS* family has had to step down... again.. from his role of officer due to real life issues. We wish Barra all the best.
And to finish the news report on a good note. The officer group wish to welcome back to active service Jay_Dageezer, and also to his first posting as a clan officer Dward. We wish you both well in what lays ahead in your duties. |
