Summer 2010-11 update -- Posted by Mr_AussieDevil on Thursday, March 3 2011 |
We start off this news update on a soggy note. As you should be aware QLD experience some devastating flooding over the Christmas and New Years period. People lost houses, loved ones, basically everything they had. The floods also caused the first ever cancellation to the *AUS* Annual Network LAN in Brisbane. The decision was made to pull the plug on it only a few days before its scheduled kick off. A big thank you to all the *AUS* network members that helped out in the planning stages of the LAN and ultimately in deciding that for safety’s sake we should call it off. Hopefully with no LAN for this year next year's one will be much bigger! Now onto the gaming news!
The GA 6v6 BF2 ladder had only one match in December before the ladder locked before finals (which btw as we speak have not taken place yet) the match was against vRes who are the reigning BF2 champs and sport a line-up of pure infantry and armour class. Vulcan Island again for our 3rd time in a row so *AUS* were slightly confident that we may last longer than a cap out both rounds. A minute into round 1 it was clear vRes were lacking nothing from previous grand final victories and sooner than you could say "GET ON THE RADIUS" we were capped out 120-0.
Our best laid plans were out the window and it was time for the old Systemlord zerg rush tactic. They didn't expect this and soon enough vRes were bleeding and badly. *AUS* with nothing to lose kept pushing, swapping squad leaders and being mobile. I think we were surprised more than vRes when they were left with no flags and only 5 of them left alive. We did it! Bagged and tagged mofo! *AUS* won the round but did lose on total tickets but capping out such a class team of skilled players was a credit to our 'TEAM' play.
With no sign of finals and a few more teams leaving the ladder it seems fitting that this may be the last competitive ladder match *AUS* participates in BF2. A match where yet again the concept that the champion team will always triumph over the team of champions. Well done *AUS* On the Bad Company 2 front, the clan's activities in this game had gone slightly downhill. There is less and less excitement about this game every day, especially with all the hype of Battlefield 3 going on. However, in continuing *AUS*'s tradition of fighting to the end, we still have three active teams running on three different ladders. The first season of Rush on Game Arena saw *AUS* make the finals, great effort guys. The first final was against mOoshou. This was always going to be a tough fight. *AUS* attacked first on Arica Harbour. We destroyed the first two Mcoms with a few tickets remaining, on to phase two! Up and over the hill we went charging with a little bit of momentum. We destroyed the Mcom in the double story building and were about 1/2 a second from destroying the second one! I was sure it was going to blow but unfortunately mOoshou disarmed it. Our momentum was brought to a stop and the round finished with *AUS* blowing 3 Mcoms. mOoshou played a very smart, but boring, strat which saw them destroy the first two Mcoms with long pot shots. Their infantry then ran over the top of us at phase two to take out Mcom 3 & 4. Congrats mOoshou, well played *AUS*.
The two other ladders, Game Arena Conquest and Cyber Gamer Conquest are still rolling ahead. *AUS* is well featured in both. The two teams were dropped to the bottom of the ladder on purpose to see how far we could climb, without playing the same "'top 4 or 5" teams in the BC2 community week in week out. Let’s hope the season's finish before the BF3 Beta arrives!
Now on to what is the most exciting news...Battlefield 3! As we speak, the game is being officially unveiled at GDC 2011 in San Francisco. We don't know too much about it at the moment. All we know is the big battles of BF2 with jets, tanks, apc's, choppers and jets are back!! Stay tuned people. Once this game is released you can be sure that *AUS* will be heavily involved in all that is big format Battlefield.
