Well done to LAB, we had an enjoyable match and look forward to a future rendezvous.
FrogG was kind enough to write a match report:
Well well well, what can i say?
For *AUS*, this was the match of the season so far - playing our friendly rivals [LAB], on one of the more "epic" Desert Combat maps, Desert Shield. Coming in as the underdogs, we actually liked our chances, but found that battling in the top 4 is indeed a tough battle
Round 1 *AUS* (opposition) 38 vs [LAB] (coalition) 0 All started well for *AUS* taking the east and west outpost, and taking up defensive positions. A bit of trouble getting our aircraft off the runway hindered our advance a bit (thanks to the mighty [LAB] airforce), but we kept pushing on. Half way into the round, the [LAB] tank rushes proved to much for our poor eastpost defenders, and the flag was lost, starting the tickets draining. Re-grouping at the main base, we re-claimed eastpost, with our own steady stream of tanks, and aircraft that finally got off the ground. Managing to salvage the round, 38-0, im sure we got a few [LAB]'ers worried, and the next 3 rounds was the result of that
Round 2 *AUS* (coalition) 0 vs [LAB] (opposition) 91 *AUS* knew that we needed to hit hard to keep our chances alive. We started out well again, with Deathmonger taking out a LAB Hind, with 3 passengers on its way to eastpost, which allowed us to snatch eastpost, and start the opposition ticket drain. Unfortunately, we couldnt hold it, again pushed out by a steady stream of [LAB] tanks (which allways seemd to outnumber us). We persistantly tried to re-capture it, but to no avail, resulting in the biggest loss of the game
Round 3 *AUS* (opposition) 0 vs [LAB] (coalition) 41 With a similar start to round 1 (but with the aircraft), *AUS* grabbed the first two flags rather quickly, and set up the-hopefully-un-breakable-defence. To take the ticket's off [LAB] we knew we needed to win, we needed to hold these 2 flags for the whole round. Unfortunately the defences didnt hold, and [LAB] broke through again, securing eastpost, and moving on to our main base. We fought them back, (well, back from our base) but not in time, with [LAB] ending the round with both eastpost, and coalition outpost.
Round 4 *AUS* (coalition) 0 vs [LAB] (opposition) 70 Once again, we managed to take out the chopper heading to easpost, but this time the iraqi tanks where there as backup, shutting our men down as we tried valiantly to cap it. We knew that to win the match (and the world cup) we needed to take home a flawless win as allies, which against a good team, should be next to impossible. Well, [LAB] sure showed us that they are a great team, despite several suprise flag caps, they still beat us back to the american outpost, and held us there for most of the round.
Well done [LAB] it was a great game, and a tough one at that. Both teams showed good knowledge of tactics, artillary, tank rushes, and runway strafing. There was no ugly mass spawn camping, only what was necessary to achieve victory for each team. Our whole team was amped so much for this match, coming in as underdogs, and knowing the rivalry between the teams, it was certainly the most tense match of the year.
Once again, thanx [LAB], everyone was very friendly, and we had a corker of a match
Best of luck in the future, you guys are gonna be tough to get out of that top 4 posy ;)
P.S. And despite booths bragging, he is one hell of a pilot. it just took a match against him for me to believe it ;) I think in the first round he got 8 or 9 kills before dying, in the f-16. and anyone who has played on DS against a good team, knows that's a pretty solid perfomance. well done boothy boy
