All good things.... -- Posted by Lord_Barra on Sunday, February 24 2008 |
All good things come to an end as they say. *AUS* is out of the finals, being eliminated a few nights ago by AvA in the semi final. It was a well played game by AvA and we perhaps had a bad night, but still we were certainly outgunned that night. I wont go any more into the details of the game, the writeup is here if you are interested: http://www.gamearena.com.au/pc/forums/battlefield2/thread.php/4612672
Anyway time to look back and reflect: This was another good learning experience for our 16v16 team, not just this AvA game but also this season. We have learned far more than we did in season two, and we learned these lessons in a harder environment. So far, this has been the most successful season for this team, losing only 2 games from memory – and both were against ava. Stripping 1757 points from teams all over the ladder and giving away only 148 is a champion effort and all the boys around here are proud of that.
*AUS* has proven once again that it can compete with the big boys and we look forward to testing our metal again next season after probably another, hopefully less dramatic, mixup of the team. Some stability in our lineup would be the last piece of an *AUS* domination puzzle as far as this clan leader is concerned. But we have learned that we can adapt quickly with what we have got and put points on the board so we will continue doing what we do best.
This will be the last news post for a while. The season is all but over now, the Grand Final left to be played when AvA faces off agianst Crex on Kubra dam – it should be a great game. We have some scrims organised to help AvA and TOG for their upcoming games, and beyond that probably a few more for the 10v10 guys, we are happy to help out in the community and support these boys that are still kicking in the Finals this season. Then the season break will take effect and GA will seek votes for next seasons ladders. I guess the POE2 candidate will raise its hand again, hopefully someone will want DC enough for that to be put in the voting cards as well. 10v10 looks as though it might change to an 8v8 ladder as well so we have some time to think about all that, vote, and see what happens before another seasons activities to keep us clicking mice in bf2 until bf3 comes out.
Thanks to all the *AUS* boys, its been a big season and one that took quite a bit of effort to navigate through but the rewards were well worth it im sure you'll all agree. Lets see what we can do next season Barra

*AUS*:LiD vs =DcS= Round 1 10v10 final -- Posted by Lord_Barra on Sunday, February 17 2008 |
A few nights ago *AUS* played the 3rd game in a 2 weeks on the sunburned streets of mashtuur city. This time however there were no choppers or arty and someone moved the flags!, this was the first finals game EVER for *AUS* 10v10..
Anyway going up against DcS we formulated the strat and put in the prac and had a scrim or three and loaded in. DcS are below us on the ladder so we played MEC first and ran across the river bed for the inevitable fire fight at mosque... or whatever they call it in 10v10. We took that as expected, MEC normally do on the roll and so looked to push out from there. We demonstrated against their main but were knocked back, so we took the... whatever that flag is on the road between backyard and power.. and so the rest of the round played out as the rest of rounds tend to against a quality team.. a lot of back and forth between flags, stopping the bleed against us being priority 1 and starting it against them being the 2nd objective.. the success varied. In most of our scrims we did well as MEC and so when the round ended out after what can only be described as a 'shitfight' all over the place, DcS had 74 tickets on the board, we had 0 and were a little concerned. Actually on reflection i think we took their main even at the same time they took ours? To be honest i dont remember much about the first round......
Talking it up in the halftime break we re focused and pushed out in round 2 with new energy and a big score to settle. My squad rolled the.. mosque or whatever... flag and setup camp. AT everywhere smashing armour in the MEC main and the rest of our boys setup camp on the other 2 flags. The other two being the ones that weren't the MEC main flag (yeah yeah shutup i dont know the 10v10 flag names) anyway we felt we were in with a chance now. The bleed was hurting DcS and we were stripping more tickets away by some good KDR work. Then something happened. Someone screamed “DAMNIT SPAWN YOUR DEAD AT MAIN”.. but so unsuccessful was our roll of mosque that we had no dead :( so some intrepid *AUS* lads in a vod went racing back as did around 110 tonnes worth of USMC mechanised muscle... but they were silenced. My squad and i started to pissbolt back from mosque – we had to help, “fuk that nadespam flag we need to secure our main” – that's what i was thinking as we pushed back on foot seeing the little icons on the minimap which told me that all my buddies were dead and dieing around our main” I dont remember if they greyed it or not but if they did we must have taken it back because we were there for another 3 mins at least. I just remember it was HOT! When we arrived, people all over the place and most had guns pointed at me! Knee deep in the dead with DCS pushing in from everywhere now that they took mosque unchallenged behind us they just bottled it in.. in the time that it takes the hummer to spawn twice.. thats how long we were there, and we tried valiantly to get out using them but failed. I was up high on the roof there spawning my AT boys and wishing to God that i had more 'nades and right then he sent me one.. except some bastard pulled the pin. It landed right on my noes as i was prone on the roof, and i mean RIGHT on my nose, it almost took up my whole screen. I stared at it for one of those seconds that lasts about 10seconds.. you know the kind, they occur just as bad things begin to happen.. in that time warp of 1second to the power of 10 seconds, i noticed that it had yellow writing on it and the word 'frag' i thought that was cool, i also pondered “why havnt i noticed that before? Ive been playing bf2 for ages now”... and with that bursting nade our 10v10 team's march up the ladder ended.
DCS by 74 + 108 in a convincing win!
Well done to DcS you play one hell of an infantry game and we had no answer on the night.
I just want to extend a BIG GG to TOG and CREX for their scrims in preparation for this game Helo, our 10v10 captain for pouring his heart and soul into the team and the strat and all the other boys and girls at *AUS* that have really banded together the past season and a bit to wave our banner high in both ladders and i look forward to doing the same next season. GG to nGR, i say again, you boys are the best thing to happen to the Battlefield community and its clear that all the plans you are cooking up are going be a big part of keeping BF2 kicking in the coming seasons before bf3 comes out and i look forward to every minute of it.
On a personal note, i just want to add that Helo has really done a great job with the 10v10 team right from the start, building a team and getting them competitive, its not been easy we know and many of the big decisions along the way were not easy ones to make. Even sitting out on the last few big games to allow others in your place who might be more likely to secure a win showed just how much the teams success meant to you and you deserve a lot of respect Helo.
Its left up to HwT now to wave the flag in the finals now so lets see just how much further they can go!

*AUS* vs DnA Finals round 2 -- Posted by Lord_Barra on Monday, February 11 2008 |
Tonight AUS played round 2 of the GA BF2 season 4 finals. It was to be on mashtuur city against a quality team in DnA. Like last game against NSOF on the same map in round 1, i can look back on a win and admit that I was preparing myself for a loss. I really didnt think we would take this one out. Using our preferred game plan against NSOF the week before we struggled to find something new that DnA will not have seen for this new game and so our strat was a little shaky to say the least. It seemed to serve us well in the first round however, we won by 44 tickets. We were on track to take it by around 100 i feel but DnA proved just how strong they are and made us hurt and took ticket after ticket by taking key flags and keeping us reacting to what they dictated in the round.
Round 2 we felt we had something to work with on 44 tickets on the happy side of 0. But it wasnt to be. Our big hammer squad failed on its rollout – two or three times in a row and that hurt. Our other boys on our other two flags were busy with their own problems and we were scrambling for a flag, anyone anywhere it didnt matter we had to get off the bleed. Flags went back and forth all round, we almost capped them, they almost capped us – repeat. It wasn't long before the score was 70 – 20 and my heart sank, my squad was at the Hill flag, still under the ticket bleed and unable to cap the flag due to the USMC tank keeping us dead or counting down the seconds for respawn. When i finally went down as SL i thought it was it. But somehow our Charlie squad took backyard flag and from there we faught tooth and nail for about 18 tickets. We turned it around just in time.. losing by 43 tickets that round we won the game.. by 1 ticket
easily the most stressful and most rewarding game any of us have ever played this is the kind of stuff we join clans for and is not something that will be forgotten by our members, our clan or perhaps even the community, for some very long time.
GG DnA. Such a fantastic game to be a part of. The *AUS* 16v16 team now plays the AvA clan in our next finals game on a map yet to be decided.

LiD ladder lock and HwT finals -- Posted by Lord_Barra on Wednesday, February 6 2008 |
LiD played their last game in the ladder lock against AFO and were defeated convincingly on Strike at Karkand. That map has been kind and brutal on our boys over the seasons however it is trending toward the latter lately. The AFO boys have skills there is no question and we just couldn't answer it on the night however the loss meant that AFO had a 5th spot on the ladder and AUS:LiD are still in there with a 6th spot on the ladder and are submitting their finals preferences for maps and times for the finals.
HwT tonight played its first finals game against NSOF. I can admit now looking back on a win that i didn't think we could take it. But we trained like horses and and kept our heads despite Ugg yelling like a madman and stress levels as high as they have been in a game played under the AUS banner.
Anyway we won, capout in round 1 to save us, we were going down on the tickets and without a cap out we surely would have lost by 30 odd tickets but instead managed a win of 28 points in round one.
Round two was better for AUS, but no easier. The infantry skill of NSOF was amazing and i guess some good commanding and a little luck meant we could cap them out unexpectedly with a further 100 or so tickets to go.
GG NSOF – hope to see you next season in 16v16 |
News update from the *AUS* BF -- Posted by Lord_Barra on Friday, February 1 2008 |
LiD, our 10v10 team is currently holding 5th spot in the 10v10 ladder after missing a challenge deadline and getting bumped back out of the top 10 as punishment, however a quick challenge submission to a higher position on the ladder occupied by the Evi| Fun clan was issued and LiD’s “Do or Die” game was booked for later in that week. It was an Epic battle on the Operation Clean Sweep map but thanks to some tooth and nail fighting, LiD, with nothing to lose and everything to gain secured the win. There must have been another 20 people in our team speak server listening to our boys play that game, holding their breath and crossing their figures. It was high fives all around after the second round ended as it dawned on us that we now have 2 teams in the finals. An accomplishment only one other clan has managed to do this season.
The 10v10 ladder locked on the 30th of Jan and games issued prior to this need to be played before the final fixtures for the finals can be drawn up, but at this stage LiD cannot be knocked out and so will begin preparing now for their coming finals campaign.
Of course, the HwT, or 16v16 team is sitting comfy in a locked in 5th spot and preparing to play its first game of finals in round 1 on Tuesday against the NSOF clan.
Well I guess that is it, HwT accomplished its goal for this season, to make the finals, and so anything from here on out is a bonus.
LiD accomplished its goals months ago when it made it to the top 30 in its ladder, it then met its re-evaluated goal of top 20. then top 15… then top 10.. now top 8. So suffice it to say everyone around the BF division is happy and proud of what their buddies and teams are accomplishing together.
Wish us luck in the finals.
