AUS vs SS Hauptjager BG -- Posted by Camouflage on Sunday, October 26 2003 |
The setting: Iwo Jima.
Round 1: AUS were the attacking allies. SS did a great job of its initial defence. Every flag was manned, making it difficult for us to make an entrance. We would send in 3 two to four man teams to the beach and airfield and they would get wiped out but we kept nipping away at their heels. In what I'd call an act of extreme arsiness, a lone gunmen somehow snuck his way into the airfield and captured it. I would have hated to have been in SS's shoes at this point in time because you can bet your arse that there were 11 *AUS* members on their way to spawn at that airfield. We didn't get this flag until the scores were around 70-120 in SS's favor. We managed to push forward and capture all their flags to take the round 23-0.
Round 2: As axis we saw a lot of action. Particularly at the mountain and bunker flags as SS parked their ships directly behind it. At one point in time SS managed to completely occupy and capture each flag but were unfortunate not to be able to push on. Generally they'd capture a bunker flag but because we had guys stationed on either side of it we were able to pound them into submission, otherwise known as gangrape. Once or twice they managed to cap the mountain and airfield but that saw us go into our "holy shit they can't take that flag" mode where we basically send all 12 players over there to recap it. Good old Rhodes in the corsair never let us down parachuting over the mountain a couple of times to recapture it. And boy did he let us know he did it too with his typical pilot attitude... "I can't always take the mountain for you guys, I'm a pilot, I don't walk on the ground, too good for that" :o Score: 74-0 in *AUS*'s favour.
Round 3: This time as the yanks, we couldn't get a foothold till about 20-70 in SS's favour. Once again we managed to "arsify" their airfield and tried to push forwards. It was a slow arduous task and eventually we got them all the way back to the mountain but we left it too late and SS won a well fought round 49-0.
Round 4: As far as I was concerned as the Japs, this was an exact replay of the 2nd round. Once again SS would go for the bunker flags and at one stage I gave the order "let them have their bunker flags and just rape them as they come to us" :o, this was good fun but then we'd just get a couple of tanks to come along and give them the long end of our barrel spelling doom for the attackers. We won 60-0.
Overall I had a ball, it was a very closesly fought match. SS Hauptjager BG are great sports, keeping their cool with a false start in the first round when we somehow managed to have two BFGs decide to show up giving us 13 players. This was thanks to an over-eager trial member trying to get a match by posing as one of regulars who just had a crash. He had us fooled too lol. I apologise for that, it's sometimes a bit difficult to teach the rules to all the new guys. Can't knock 'em for being keen though. Thanks for the great games and we look forward to playing you in the future.
Final score: 157-49 *AUS* wins
23-0 *AUS* as allies 74-0 *AUS* as axis 0-49 SS as axis 60-0 *AUS* as axis |
*AUS* vs NmE -- Posted by Camouflage on Monday, October 13 2003 |
Well this was definately our closest match for a while, but it was our second trip in as many weeks to Iwo Jima, up against the experienced NmE. Our confidence was high and we genuinely thought we were in with a chance after a strong win against TOG last week. However the experience of NmE shone through in the end.
"First round" saw the entire server crash after 5mins with the scores locked at 127 a piece with NmE looking the goods to overrun *AUS* who were on the back foot as axis.
But we eventually got everyone back, ref and all in about 45mins to restart the match with *AUS* this time a bit more awake and as Allies we fought NmE off and won the round 114-0.
Second round saw NmE dominating from the air, destroying LVs as *AUS*hopelessly tried to get a foothold on the island. Unfortunately we just couldn't achieve what we wanted to do and NmE ran out winners of the round, 122-0.
In the third round it was obvious that NmE had figured out our tactics and quickly adapted, showing great leadership and experience to completely catch us offguard with a completely unexpected tactic which I will withhold in case they want to use it against someone else ;) However *AUS* pulled together and fought NmE back and won the round 41-0.
The fouth round was up for grabs, we knew we could still win it, NmE could too and were perhaps in the box seat, and in a nearly blatant ripoff of their tactics (which didn't actually work) we captured the beach flag instantly instead of what we aimed for. In a desparate final push we captured the airfield, and lost it straight away, then got it back straight away, and we moved forwards attacking strongly but it was just too late, NmE held *AUS* off and prevented us from holding the middle bunkers and they ran out winners of the round 52-0, and the match - 155-177
Thanks for the match guys, you're top notch team with great skills, tactics, and experience to boot - the latter being something we probably lacked in the end. GL on your approach to the finals.
Thanks Pilate for being the Ref, and GG Telstra for crashing in the first 5mins! |
